LEVELS
The Kariba Lake was created and designed to
operate between levels 475.50m and 488.50m with 0.70m freeboard at all
time
The level of water at Lake Kariba
rose significantly during the week under review, rising from 484.46m on
22nd February 2010 to 484.86m on 28th February 2010. The rise is
due to persistent heavy rains that occurred over the Zambezi Catchment, more especially
the Lower Catchment. The
end of week level of 484.86m on 28th February 2010 is 2.73m higher than the level
attained last year on the same date.
In terms of live storage, that is
storage available for power generation at Kariba, the reservoir was 70%
full as at close of week on 28th February 2010 whilst last year it was
only 48%.
